1 - Is your septic alarm going off?
If your pump alarm is going off, then it most likely means that your tank is full. Give us a call so we can pump it for you before it starts backing up into your home.
2 - Are you noticing a smell in your home or are your toilets bubbling?
One of the first indicators that your septic tank may be full are odors coming from your bathroom and bubbling toilets. Don’t wait to get your tank pumped. These early warning signs are your septic systems way of saying “I’m full now! I need to be emptied please!” If action isn’t taken ASAP, you might be waking up to overflowing toilets and showers.
3 - Are your toilets slow flushing or slow draining?
This can be a tricky one. Is it your plumbing? Or is it your septic system? Don’t rule out that it’s not a plumbing issue if you’re on septic. Typically, but not always, it’s a plumbing concern when there’s issues in one toilet or drain and not in multiple areas of the home at once. However, if they remain slow even after unclogging measures or after calling a plumber, the septic system may be full and it’s time to get it pumped.
4 - Are there pools of water on your lawn?
We expect pooling water after a heavy rain, especially here in Florida with our afternoon summer showers. But areas of saturation on your lawn where your drain field is located is a sign that your septic system is full and overflowing. If this is what you see on the lawn, it’s best to have your tank pumped and your drain field assessed.
5 - What about roots, pools, and structures near my drain field?
Trees can cause issues with your septic system. In particular your drain field. If you are doing some landscaping, DO NOT plant trees or large bushes near your septic system. Roots love your drain field.
Why? There’s constant water flow there and growing roots can cause interruptions with the way the water flows into your drain field. You should also never put any kind of structure or park your car on your drain field. Examples of these structures are patios, drive ways, and above ground pools.
We offer septic system inspections if you are unsure about the health of your drain field. So give us a call to schedule.
